About me

My name is Fernando Melchor and I hold a B.S. in Mechatronics Engineering from the Tecnologico de Monterrey (Mexico) and I am currently studying the MSc. in Urban Informatics program at the Center of Urban Science + Progress at New York University.

I have 5 years of experience in the automotive industry specializing in electronics, in-vehicle communications and operation strategies of different subsystems (such as: engine, transmission, and human-machine interfaces). Over the years, I have been able to participate in different aspects of product development, including: design, project management, prototyping, validation, optimization, launching, and quality analysis.

At one moment during my career I realized that the most important and fundamental system in world are the cities; the hearth of cultural and technological development of every nation. Complexity and multidimensionality are some words that could describe the urban environment. I quickly became fascinated with the topic, and I decided I wanted to actively participate in the transformation of the urban experience.

In the attempt to address the biggest struggles of the cities and close the gap of inequality,  exploiting the potential of big-data is fundamental to understand and measure the city. I am a firm believer that the path to the creation of a more accessible, resilient and democratic city rests with data analytics and citizen engagement.
